An immunisation (vaccine) is available to girls and young women in New Zealand to help protect them from cervical cancer. It protects against the four types of human papillomavirus (HPV) that lead to most cervical cancers and genital warts. The vaccine is available free to girls and young women born on or after 1 January 1990.
